Initially assisted in maintenance of all software for the department's ICL 4130, primarily the time-sharing operating system, Multi-Pop, and its associated programming language POP-2. With the departments's transfer to the DEC-10, assisted in the maintenance and enhancement of POP-2 on that m/c and was responsible for the maintenance and development of the AI program library and its documentation. Latterly worked on EMAS, using IMP to rewrite much of the LOGO interpreter. 2. 1978-82 E.R.C.C. as computing officer, CO2; 1982-87 as CO3; half-time from 1984. Software Projects: i) LOGO - Transfer of the LOGO interpreter to 2970 EMAS; ongoing maintenance and support. ii) PASCAL - Provision of interface to mount Southampton Pascal compiler on 2900 EMAS - ongoing support and maintenance. Back-up support to advisory for general Pascal queries. iii) VME/B - Provision of enhanced usibility features for Fortran and Algol compilers released by ICL. Testing of new facilities/amendments and setting up & running alpha tests for new releases. iv) PERQ FORTRAN - Provision of Pascal interface to the Perq for Perq/Fortran compiler - ongoing support & maintenance. Assisting in general support for Perq/Fortran problems and Perq system generally. v) FORTRAN OPTIMISER - Development and implementation of algortihms for producing optimised code for 2900 Fortran77 compiler. Exhaustive testing of the compiler on Emas and VME/B, including the successful throughput of ICL set of alpha & beta tests on vme/b. Modifications to the optimiser for PERQ and development/implementation/testing of further optimisation algorithms. vi) AMDAHL PASCAL - Assisted with modifications to EPC Perq Pascal front end for mounting on the Amdahl - on going support and maintenance. vii) AMDAHL FORTRAN - Mounting and testing new versions of EPC Fortran compiler and optimiser - ongoing support and maintenance.
