The distributed NRS service
                      ---------------------------

From 15 June 1987 users will be required to collect the NRS database from 
one of the distribution centres (DCs) listed below. These DCs will collect 
the files from UK.AC.NRS daily between 01:00 and 08:00 after which time 
they will be available for collection by users. The files available and 
the method of collecting are listed below for each DC.

It is very important that users cease from the above date to collect these
files from UK.AC.NRS as otherwise the new service will not work.

I suggest that in general files are collected from the DC nearest to you
except where there are valid reasons for collecting from elsewhere.

At present the complete list of DCs have not been set up as information
on how to access some of them has not yet been provided.


List of Distribution Centres

1. UK.AC.NRS.DC-1

Username NRS
Password NRS

Files available are DERFIL,DERFIL1,DERFIL2,BNAMES & INAMES

To FTP DERFIL2 you should ask for NRS.DERFIL2
and similarly for other files.

2. UK.AC.NRS.DC-2

Username guest
Password <email address of requestor>

Files available are DERFIL2.Z, DERFIL2.z & DERFIL2

DERFIL2.Z is a compressed format of DERFIL2 which is 133Kb instead of 500Kb.
The programme uncompress is available on UN*X and PR1ME sites to decode the
file. Due to a bug in the Yorkbox hhP programme, some sites may not be able to
fetch the binary copy, so a textual format (uuencoded) is available in
DERFIL2.z (180Kb).
The raw DERFIL2 should not be fetched from this site under normal
circumstances.

Files may be sent from this site on reception of each new DERFIL2 (or as
required) by arrangement with the mailbox below.

For reqular collectors, the file should be fetched with a prefix of the day
of the month to avoid fetching an old copy if no new copy has arrived.
e.g. to collect the file generated on the 11 of May ask for DERFIL2.Z.11
[ This should be done on the morning of the 12th ]

Note that all string above are CASE SENSITIVE.

To FTP DERFIL2.Z you should ask for <NRS>DERFIL2.Z

3. UK.AC.UMRCC 

Username ANON
Password xxxxxx (The passwords can be any site defined string, a local
                 mailname would be a useful string to choose)

Files available are DERFIL,DERFIL1,DERFIL2,BNAMES,TCENTRAL & INAMES

To FTP DERFIL2 you should specify a remote filename :WW.WFTPI.NRS.DERFIL2
and similarly for the other files.

4. UK.AC.SWURCC

Username FTP
No password

Files available are DERFIL,DERFIL1,DERFIL2,TCENTRAL,DCENTRAL,BNAMES,
INAMES and SSTATS

To FTP derfil2 you should specify a remote filename 
          :NETINFO.NRS.DERFIL2

5. UK.AC.EDINBURGH
