Dear Colleague, At the workshop of representatives from the European academic networking communities held on the 13th to the 15th may 1985, it was decided to take a number of initiatives to foster inter-networking in Europe. One of these initiations was to enable 'Full Screen Services' and I have been asked to follow this up. I am writing to you as a named 'representative' of your country/organisation to seek your views on the current position and how it can be progressed. I am including a full circulation list with this letter and would request that you send your response to all the people on the list to promote a genuine dialogue. There are a number of problems associated with handling full screen facilities across a network. The solution to these problems is not immediately obvious and there are advantages in attempting to avoid major duplication in effort. To what extent do you support full screen terminal services across networks? Triple-X (X3, X28 and X29) can be used to support full screen working although it can be difficult to sustain a reasonable performance. Is it used by you in this way? What alternatives, if any, do you use to Triple X for screen based facilities across a network, and do you feel that these could be promoted on a European wide basis? To what extent, and in what timescale, do you think that the ISO Virtual Terminal Protocal will have an impact on providing the solution to the existing problems. Yours sincerely, B. A. C. Gilmore
