@make[report] @device[X2700] @majorheading[ Proposal to the GEC/ALVEY Steering Comittee to Acquire the Computer Board's Recommended Protocols for use on SCMA/CD LANs] @subheading[1. Introduction] The ERCC implemented ISO Transport Class 4 running over Logical Link Control - LLC1 at a time before there was a firm recommendation on Ethernet protocols from JNT. The Computer Board is now recommending a different set of protocols for use on Ethernet and it is the intention of ERCC to implement the Computer Board set of protocols as a replacement for Class 4/LLC1. @subheading[2.] ERCC will develop and mount the OSI Network Service as defined in DIS 8348 using the X25 (1984) protocol as specified in DIS 8208 and the Logical Link Control as specified in DIS 8802/3 Class II. The detailed implementation will correspond to the JNT recommendation as in - @format[ Implemetation Details for Protocols on CSMA/CD Lans JNT/CSMA/CD LAN (85)] This document is currently in draft form, but the actual implementation will be aligned to the final document. The work will be split into two distinct parts, the first will be to write a protocol implementation in 'C' in as portable a manner as is practicable. The second part will be to deliver a working version of this software on the UX63 operating system for the GEC Series 63 computer. @subheading[3. Interfacing] This code will completely replace the existing code that implements Class 4/LLC1 as described in paper AG1P 66 and will match the described interfaces. (or those as defined by the ALVEY/GEC Implementation Committee.) @subheading[4. Documentation] Documentation already exists for JNT Coloured Book protocols running over LLASS4/LLC1 implementation guide for the X25 and LLC2 code will be produced. @subheading[5. Support] ERCC will undertake to rectify faults in the X25 or LLC2 code for a period of six months. After that period one would expect faults to be handled under the normal Alvey support arrangements but ALVEY could seek be made a seperate agreement with ERCC if necessary. @subheading[6. Intellectual Property Rights] ERCC will retain the right to develop and market this software in which ever manner it chooses. ALVEY will receive rights to mount this software on any Infrastructure machine for use within the ALVEY Project. GEC as collaborators in the ALVEY/IKBS Infrastructure will receive exclusive rights to market this software on the GEC Series-63 machine range. Neither GEC or ALVEY (or their agents) will pass the software to third parties for onward marketing woutout the prior consent of ERCC. @subheading[7. Costs] ERCC would charge ALVEY @t(#)37,500 for delivery of the above software. @subheading[8. Timescales] The implementation effort is estimated at 18 man months, ERCC will assign one full time and one part time person to complete the product within 12 months of a formal commitment by ALVEY to purchase the software. @flushright[B.
