EDINBURGH REGIONAL COMPUTING CENTRE For the attention of the Edinburgh Computer Users' Committee Report on Communications CPSEs KB CPSE 1 There is still a disappointing rate of software crashes on this machine, currently about 1 per week. GEC has given us new software which fixed some of the older faults but there has been a numbner of crashes all caused by the same fault. GEC have promised a fix for this fault. AT CPSE There have been two software crashes since the previous report. KB CPSE 2 This CPSE was upgraded on the 9th March to a more modern processor and extra lines were installed. There have been no crashes since. TCPs A new release with 'Lower' as default as well as 'GVME' omitted (as announced in the Newsletter), is due to go in within the next week. PADs The dial up lines were moved from TCP-S to a PAD on the 9th March. Apart from Pentlandfield, which is still causing some problems, the position with PADs is satisfactory. There is now a version of SCREED which runs on Hazeltine Esprits on the PAD. FEPs After some problems, mainly caused by FTP problems, in the middle of the term, the position is stable. PSSE PSSE was successfully moved to X25 on March 11th, since then it has performed reliably. XCALL There have been a few crashes but all the faults causing them have been cleared. B. A. C.
