$ Curriculum Vitae David James Rees Department of Computer Science Career : 1963-65 : Research student, Computer Unit, University of Edinburgh. 1965-66 : Assistant Lecturer, Computer Unit, University of Edinburgh. 1966- : Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, University of Edinburgh. 1966-70 : Team Leader, Edinburgh Multi-Access Project. 1972-73 : Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Sciences, University of Wisconsin, USA. Invited lecturer : Institution of Electrical Engineers, Summer School 1971 External examiner (M.Sc.) : University of Essex, 1975. Research : Multi-access Operating Systems design and implementation. Research is concerned with the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of operating systems from both user and owner/manager points of view. This has been conducted hitherto on ERCC computers, ICL 4-75s and ICL 2900s, and has resulted in the EMAS operating systems widely used within the University. Similar work is now continuing on the departmental VAX-11/780 with the main aim being to produce a better and more ergonomic user interface to the system. In addition, investigation is proceeding towards a computer design which would provide a better hardware basis for software research. The ultimate direction of this work is a powerful but cheap personal computer. Cooperation takes place with Prof. H. Whitfield of the University of Groningen, Holland, in this area. Programming Language and Compiler design and implementation. A continuing research interest in this field. Colour raster-scan graphics as applied to the Computer Aided Design of Integrated Circuits.
