Tabulation.

By tabulation, we mean setting up tables.

On a typewriter, the typist usually has
special controls which make the setting up of
tables relatively easy - these controls
enable the typist to set up, clear and move
to 'tab-stops' (or 'tabs') as required.

These tabs (usually) form the column
boundaries of the table being set up.
