SCRIBE - Design Philosophy.

Of course, this apparently simple approach
hides a lot from the user. Ultimately, SCRIBE
must include in the output all the necessary
information about spacing, line length,
typeface etc. for different output devices
and document types.

This is done by having SCRIBE refer to a
large database whenever it is run. It is this
database which contains all the relevant
information for formatting output for
different devices, document types, text
environments etc.
