SCRIBE - Design Philosophy.

None of the individual groupings of text
within the file (known in SCRIBE terminology
as 'environments') should need to be altered
in any way when a change of this kind is made
in a document.

This generalised way of specifying formatting
requirements is known as a 'declarative'
approach, and the whole design philosophy may
be summarised roughly in the following terms:

   'SCRIBE allows users to specify what
    they want, not how to do it'
