The following images are "fractal" images generated on Departmental machines. They are portions of the Mandelbrot and Julia sets (plus a few others). These sets are generated by taking a complex polynomial f(z) and applying it to itself repeatedly for different values of z. The polynomial may become essentially infinite after say n(z) iterations. The images are produced by assigning one colour value to each possible value of n(z) (modulo 256) and plotting it for different values of z = p + iq.. The real axis is plotted horizontally and the imaginary axis vertically (usual Argand diagram convention). Each image is displayed along with a brief description and the minimum and maximum values of p and q.
